The Ukrainian Institute of Applied Psychology and Psychotherapy invites you to the lecture "Neuropsychology for Psychologists"!
The lecture is dedicated to understanding how the brain organizes mental processes and how this knowledge can be used in the practice of a psychologist.
We will consider the basic principles of neuropsychology, functional systems of the brain and their role in the formation of attention, memory, thinking and emotions.
We will pay special attention to how disorders of various brain structures manifest themselves in behavior and cognitive functions.
In a practical dimension, we will discuss how neuropsychological thinking helps to more accurately diagnose, formulate hypotheses about the mechanisms of difficulties
and build corrective and consultative strategies. The lecture is focused on integrating knowledge about the brain into the real work of a psychologist - from understanding symptoms
to building effective intervention.
What will be at the lecture?
What is neuropsychology in the modern sense
Why does a psychologist need it - from symptoms to mechanisms
Basic principles of neuropsychology:
- the concept of functional systems (O. Luria and modern interpretations);
- the principle of systematicity and dynamic localization;
- factors (neuropsychological mechanisms): energy, regulatory, information processing;
- three blocks of the brain and their practical significance;
- how these principles help to think not in terms of “symptoms”, but in terms of mechanisms.
Basic cognitive functions through the prism of the brain:
- attention: neural networks, control, exhaustion;
- memory: working and long-term, the role of frontal and temporal structures;
- thinking and programming of activity: associative systems;
- language: as an example of a complex functional system;
- short clinical examples (ADHD, PTSD, consequences of trauma).
Practical application - diagnostics:
- principles of neuropsychological examination;
- how to assess not the function, but the mechanism of the disorder;
- how to formulate a neuropsychological conclusion.
Practical application - correction and counseling:
- from the mechanism of the disorder to intervention;
- sensorimotor correction, cognitive training and work with the environment;
- integration of neuropsychological methods into the work of a psychologist.
Basic ideas and strategies for application in practice, and how to start using neuropsychological methods now.
