Psychotherapy cannot be separated from reality.
It exists in what is happening to us — here and now.
Today, Ukraine is living through an experience that is changing not only individuals, but the very field of life itself — the ways we exist, endure, interact, and recover. In this context, relying solely on classical theories is no longer enough. To provide meaningful support, we need to see and explore the living process in which we all find ourselves.
It was in response to this need that UIAPP established its research division.
Its purpose is to transform everyday therapeutic practice, professional observations, and the experience of our specialists into a meaningful, scientifically grounded body of knowledge.
Our research is based on a scientific approach and the field perspective. We study how external contexts — war, prolonged uncertainty, and social transformation — influence a person’s inner world, relationships, group processes, and collective responses. We are interested not only in the symptom itself, but also in the field in which it emerges and changes.
The results of this work are more than statistics. They offer a map of a new reality — one that helps psychologists better understand their clients and helps each of us better understand ourselves.
Key Areas of UIAPP Research
- monitoring the psychological state of society and the professional community;
- studying the mechanisms of adaptation, resilience, and recovery;
- analyzing psychological transformations under conditions of prolonged trauma;
- developing relevant, context-sensitive approaches and recommendations for practicing psychotherapists.
We believe that science can support professionals working in the field of psychology.
And that it is through careful exploration of living processes that psychotherapy emerges which can truly support individuals, communities, and society as a whole.
