Ukrainian Institute of Applied Psychology and Psychotherapy Invites You to a Practical Seminar

"DISSOCIATION: A Perspective from the Field Paradigm of Gestalt Therapy"

"Dissociation is an escape when there is nowhere to run. During the seminar, we will discuss the very concept of dissociation—aligning our understanding to ensure we are on the same conceptual page. This term is complex and cannot be examined in isolation from related concepts such as attachment trauma, defensive projective identification, and others. We will explore these as well, weaving them into a larger web of experiences and biological processes that affect an individual.

We will also examine the bodily-emotional reactions that precede, accompany, and occur outside the dissociative process. With care, we will look into trauma development and how the "last hope strategy," as Dixon refers to dissociation, evolves. Additionally, we will explore the dangerous forms of dissociation - how individuals, in search of relief, may turn to addictions, eating disorders, self-harm, and other maladaptive coping mechanisms.

A significant part of the seminar will focus on the therapist’s work with dissociation:

- How to recognize hyperactivation and sudden disconnection during a therapy session.
- Practicing working with projective identification.
- Addressing the affective reactions of the therapist that may arise when working with dissociation.

I will present the material and facilitate the group from the field perspective of Gestalt therapy. Those who have attended my seminars before know that seemingly magical processes often take place. However, I will explain everything in detail, so you can take away something valuable—both personally and professionally.

"People who detach through dissociation are disconnected not only from their environment but also from themselves—their bodies, actions, and sense of identity." - Allen.

Together, we will learn how to help clients reconnect with themselves." - Yuriy Filimonchuk
